Embreak* Demulsifier Chemicals

SUEZ's phase separation product line is designed to assist in separating solid-liquid, liquid-liquid, and gas-liquid mixtures. The largest segment of the product line are demulsifiers specifically formulated for desalters and raw crude tank treatment in the Embreak product family.

Embreak products include demulsifier chemicals specially formulated to resolve water-in-oil emulsions as well as adjuncts such as crude stabilizers, wetting agents, pH modifiers (Predator*) and reverse breakers. Product selection is empirical and conducted with SUEZ's proprietary laboratory testing equipment designed to model the desalter environment.

SUEZ employs a holistic approach to examining tank farm operation, slop oil, wash water sources and rates to specifically tailor a desalter program to maximize desalter performance. SUEZ has local representatives that are typically within the refinery to monitor operational parameters to ensure optimal program performance is achieved.

What are demulsifiers?

Demulsifier chemicals, or commonly referred to as emulsion breakers, are used to separate water-in-oil and oil-in-water emulsions. Demulsifiers are ordinary non-ionic structures with an oleophilic (oil-loving) portion and hydrophilic (water-loving) portion. Demulsifiers will either associate with emulsion stabilizing surfactants and carry then away from the oil-water interfere or displace the surfactant at the interface.
